What makes a good musician?

What's your thought regarding this matter?

For me, Annointing + Passion + Skill + One must be a worshipper.

That for me is a good musician..

As a musician let's encourage one another to continually seek the anointing of God on our lives and ministry so that we should honour him with the gifts he has given us.

Passion, wikipedia defines it as a strong feeling about a subject or person, usually of intense desire and attraction. Indeed, if we are passionate about our ministry it show on how we give importance to simple task such as giving our instruments the best care that we could give. Minsan kasi we neglect simple things such as cleaning the instruments that we use.. Minsan bulok bulok na yung strings e hinahayaan lang natin.. Tas pagkatapos gamitin, natiwang-wang na lang basta. Mga simpleng bagay na hindi naman mahirap gawin pero hindi ginagawa.. Syempre diba, halimvawa na lang, let say you have a girlfriend or boyfriend, tas nakita mong may muta sya, hahaha, hindi mo man lang ba pupunasan? hehehe..

So if we have the intense desire with our ministry as a musician, we have the desire to learn and to improve our skill in such. Sabi ni Kelly Badon (Former Lead guitarist of Side A) noon while i was watching Side A documentary wayback, hmm, di ko na maalala.. Hehehe , "Hindi natin dapat maisip na magaling na tayo sa pagtugtog, cause there is always a room for improvement", kasi pagdumating daw sa point na ganon yung thinking natin we wouldn't try to improve ourself on our craft - so true.
Tama nga naman diba? Lalo na't ang ministry natin e hindi basta-basta cause we are not playing for the people. Bear in mind that we are playing for the most High God, King of kings and Lord of Lords, so hindi naman pwedeng basta-basta na lang yung pagplay natin sa kay Lord, diba?

Kaya, let us always remember to practice so that we can improve ourself on our ministry.. Take time to learn the things na hindi pa natin alam. Minsan din kasi, nagmamadali, nagmamadaling matuto.. Hey, what's the rush? Take your time, kelangan ding masanay muna yung muscle natin in doing the stuff that we want.. So wag magmadali sa pagpractice., everything will follow in time..

And lastly, musicians must be a worshipper. At saan ka ba naman nakakita ng abogadong hindi nagsasalita sa courtroom, o sundalo na nasa giyera e, hindi nagpapaputok na baril? So if you consider yourself as a musician which is a part of the worhip team, you should know how to worship.. And worship must become our lifestyle.. Best example for me, would be Ptr. Dick Carumba. You should see him once, how he leads the people in worship and how he plays skilfully to the Lord.. as in, wala ako masabi.. He's one of the best..

I agree kay kuya brian, Anointing, passion and skill are the necessary qualities of a good musician, not just for people but of course for God. Everybody can be a musician for the world but anyone with no anointing cannot be a musician of God. May isang incidence na kinuwento ni Uncle leet sa napuntahan nyang isang christian event. Sobrang galing ng drummer, dumating sa point na ang attention ng mga tao ay nasa drummer na. Later uncle found out na hindi pala christian ang drummer. Hindi naman tamang i-blame ang drummer dahil nawala ang focus ng mga tao sa worship. But we could see the negative outcome in the absence of anointing. We unconsciously taking the attention of the people which is really intended for God. Minsan hindi nga unconscious kasi intensyon talagang magpasikat. Everyone is capable of that terrible thing.

One thing that i think a good musician must posses, He must have a character. Everyone has character, but not all was good or acceptable. Yung iba sa musicians na nameet ko, kadalasan hindi sila willing mag turo o mag share ng kanilang talento. Karamihan ang kanilang rason ay dahil natuto silang mag-isa at sa sariling sikap, kaya dapat ganun din ang iba. Not bad at all, yes it's good to encourage potential musicians to develop their skills by their own effort, but i think it's better to help them so they could achieve excellence right? Hindi naman siguro kawalan ng kagalingan kung mag babahagi ka ng natutunan mo sa iba. Makakatulong ka pa sa kauunlad ng kapwa mu.
